The 2009 annual fishing trip was the week June 20-June 24, 2009. ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL TRIP ! This was our 22nd year and every year seems better than the previous one. This year we were at Mousseau’s Island Lodge on beautiful Sturgeon Lake. Sturgeon Lake is off Highway 599 about 70 miles north of Ignace, Ontario. Some people had to back out at the last minute so we ended up with 15 only people on the trip. What a great group of guys we had this year. This year’s fishing group was made up of Harvey from Bonnet’s Mill, Missouri John from Eliopolis, Illinois Allan and Carl from Boise, Idaho My son Ryan from Paris, Ontario and his father in law Doug from Simcoe, Ontario Syd from Dorion, Ontario Mark and his son Byron, Jim and his sons Steve and Dave, Chris and Martin And yours truly Elio, all from Thunder Bay. A great time was had by all. We caught lots of fish, we ate like kings, and spent our evenings recapping the day and enjoying the odd beverage. We also laughed a lot as some of the guys are natural comedians’ and something funny always happens every day. We kept track of the fish caught and 23 Walleye over 24 inches were caught and released. We all agreed that anything over 18 inches would be released as they are “breeders” The largest Walleye was a 30 inch monster caught by Syd. Ryan caught one at 29 inches. The largest Northern Pike was 38 inches caught by Harvey. Steve brought a pike right to the boat and it was a huge one, Jim estimated that it was well over 44 inches and who know what it may have weighed...but it got away. (that was Jim’s estimate last week, this week that pike grew to 46 inches...imagine !!) I can hardly wait until next week. The largest Lake Trout was about 8 pounds and caught by Doug. I hate to admit it, but Alan and Carl were the Lake Trout kings. These two guys caught more lake trout than anyone else. Alan kept bragging that it was all skill, but personally I thought it was pure luck. Nobody could be that good at catching lake trout by jigging for them. It had to be luck. ( I wonder if I should invite him back next year ?). The weather was good and it really only rained one day. But, we’re northerners, and we’re tough and we are used to this so we went fishing anyway. Anyway, that’s my report on this year’s fishing trip. ALREADY LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT YEARS TRIP. See you then. Elio Scocchia
