Often referred to as the “Outdoor lover’s delight”, the community of Black River – Matheson (BR-M) is located on Highway No. 11 and lies 56 km Northwest of Kirkland Lake, 65 km East of Timmins centre and 300 km north of North Bay, in the District of Cochrane in the northeastern part of Ontario. The Township is bound on the West by the City of Timmins, on the North by the Town of Iroquois Falls and on the South and East by unorganized territory. The Town of Matheson was amalgamated with the surrounding town sites of Ramore, Val Gagne, Holtyre and Shillington, along with many outlying townships approximately 30 years ago to form a new municipality known as the Corporation of the Township of Black River-Matheson. The population of Black River- Matheson is approximately 2,900. The Town of Matheson is the largest of the town sites and is located in the centre of the Township.
