Chapleau has road access from the east, west and south; a modern airport and a unique passenger rail service on the transcontinental line called the "Budd Car" which is a popular choice with tourists and locals.

Chapleau is a friendly Northern Ontario town with people eager to help the visitor in both English and French. It's a major shopping and business centre for the surrounding area. The downtown Chapleau business community offers visitors excellent opportunities to shop for all their needs. Quaint cafes and specialty restaurants offer dining at it's best and hotel and motel accommodations are centrally located.

Chapleau, Ontario,

Chapleau, a Northern Ontario community of approximately 2,900 people, lies about 190 kilometres northeast of Sault Ste. Marie, 272 kilometres northwest of Sudbury, and 843 kilometres north of Toronto.

The nearest largest communities are Wawa (140 kilometres to the West) and Timmins (200 kilometres to the East).

Chapleau is located within the Boreal Forest Region and the Arctic Watershed. The community is also the gateway to the world's largest Crown nature preserve covering an area of 700,000 hectares. The Crown Game Preserve was protected in 1925 from hunting and trapping, but logging and tourism activities occur year-round. Opportunities for viewing wildlife are exceptional in the area.

Chapleau enjoys very long days of sunlight during the summer season (from 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.), and average temperatures of +22C (70F). During the winter season, there is an abundance of fluffy snow, bright sunshine most days, aurora borealis, and average temperatures of -15C (0-5F).

Fishing
The lakes and rivers of the Preserve and area provide anglers with a variety and abundance of fish. Species include walleye, northern pike, lake trout, splake, yellow perch, lake whitefish and smallmouth bass.
