Non-Residents
Wishing to Hunt Moose
Non-residents who are owners of land in a WMU that has
an open season for non-residents and wish to hunt in that unit, may apply for a calf validation tag from a
ServiceOntario office. (Non-resident landowners are not
eligible to apply in the resident moose draw for an adult validation tag.) Non-residents who qualify under this exception and wish to apply for a calf validation tag must purchase a moose licence and, prior to the hunt, submit their application along with proof of property ownership to
the District MNR office responsible for the WMU.

Non-resident Black Bear Hunters
The following non-residents are not required to use a
licensed bear operator:
• A non-resident hunting with an immediate relative who is an Ontario resident licensed to hunt a black bear in a Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) that has an open season for non-residents. Immediate relative, when used
in reference to a person, means that person’s
grandparent, parent, spouse, child, sibling or grandchild.
• A non-resident who is the owner of property in a WMU
that has an open black bear season for non-residents.
A non-resident who qualifies under either of these two
exceptions MUST still apply for the validation
certificate at an
MNR office in the area of the hunt. A non-resident black bear hunting licence is not valid unless a validation certificate
accompanies it. Where a property is owned by more than one person or by a corporation, only one validation certificate
will be issued. The non-resident landowner can hunt only in the WMU where the property is located.

Information from the Ministry of Natural Resources can be obtained from the Cochrane MNR office at 705-272-4365.

ALL SURFACE RIGHTS COME WITH THE PROPERTY, mining rights and all pine trees are reserved to the Crown.

MATTAGAMI RIVER
Centuries ago it was the main route for explorers and fur traders.
You can kayak in white water or tranquil waters, raft through spectacular scenery, and canoe along the river . There are many opportunities to enjoy the wildlife along this river.

The river runs north for
about 350 kilometres to the Missinaibi River,
which then runs about 150 kilometres to the Moose
River, and it runs another 100 kilometres to James Bay, which is at the south end of Hudson Bay and on to the Arctic Ocean.

Smooth Rock Falls
The Community of Smooth Rock Falls is situated along Highway 11 North between the communities of Cochrane and Kapuskasing.
The community was so named because of an area on the Mattagami River where the water tumbles over a large rock washed smooth by the rushing waters.
The community has a population of 1,800, of which 80% are French speaking but English is the working language.
The Town of Smooth Rock Falls is a very friendly, clean and well kept community.

The Town of Smooth Rock Falls boasts year round recreation which include a golf course, outdoor community swimming pool, baseball diamonds, fishing, hunting, curling, skating, hockey, cross country skiing and well groomed skidoo trails. Many lakes and rivers as well as Provincial Parks encompass the area for the outdoors enthusiast.

Timmins
www.city.timmins.on.ca
Timmins is located in the heartland of the greatest mineral-producing area in the Western Hemisphere.
This community is a leader in the production of gold and silver, has a world class base metal mine and processing operation producing copper, zinc, indium and sulphuric acid. With a population of approximately 50,000 residents, Timmins is centrally located in Northeastern Ontario. The community has evolved into a regional service centre selling its products and services to all the communities along the Highway 11 corridor and the James Bay coast.
This area encompasses a population of over 120,000 people. The City of Timmins owes its birthright to the riches of the Canadian Shield. In 1909, Harry Preston slipped on a rocky knoll and the heels of his boots stripped the moss to reveal a large vein of gold. In 1911, Noah Timmins founded the town to house the employees of the Hollinger Mine. The McIntyre and Dome discoveries followed soon after, and hundreds of miners, along with their families, made Timmins their home. Building on this solid, industrial foundation of mining and forestry, the City of Timmins now offers a variety of natural, cultural, and recreational diversions.

From the U.S. the closest border crossings are at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Detroit, Michigan and Buffalo, New York (Niagara Falls). By road from Sault Ste Marie, travel north on Highway 17 to Wawa then east on Hwy 101 to Timmins.

From Buffalo the route into Canada goes from Niagara Falls, the QEW to Toronto, Hwy 427, then north to Hwy 401 east to Hwy 400 past Barrie until it becomes Hwy 69. Hwy 144 goes from Sudbury to Timmins. It is about a seven-to-eight-hour drive from Buffalo. From Detroit, the route is Hwy 401 east to Toronto then onward as from Buffalo.

By air, Timmins airport connects to all major cities in North America with Air Ontario.
There are several scheduled flights per day, 7 days a week between Timmins and Toronto.
