ABOUT THE AREA

Lanark was first settled in 1820 by Scottish immigrants who named it after the town of Lanark in Scotland.

In 1823 it established its first post office. It soon became a major hub of the lumbering and textile industries, both of which used the Clyde River which runs through the village, as a source of power and as a transportation route to transport logs east to the Ottawa River.

Cottages and campsites dot the shores of the Township's many clean lakes.

Located entirely on the Canadian Shield, the landscape can often be rough and unpredictable, but at the same time provides scenic vistas.

According the contour maps, the property elevation fluctuates from 225 meters above sea level (MASL) to 185 MASL along the shoreline of Bow Lake.

The property took part in the Woodlands Improvement act in the 1970's and inspected again in the 90's.

This was a process in which the Ministry performed woodlot improvement work to promote suitable hardwood growth.

They would also remove the undesirable trees such as Ironwoods from the property.

The Ministry Planted roughly 21 acres of Pine Trees on the Southwest corner back in the 70's.

 

WOODLANDS IMPROVEMENT ACT

Data from the former Kemptville, Midhurst and Aylmer Districts were compiled in this dataset to show forest areas on private land, managed by the landowner in cooperation with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources under the Woodlands Improvement Act (WIA). The WIA allowed for 15-year management agreements between landowners and the MNR to plant and improve woodlands on private land. The WIA was in place from 1966-1999.

There is a ROAD ALLOWANCE that branches off Bow Lake Road, which provides ATV ACCESS to the property on the Southwest corner.

There is also another ROAD ALLOWANCE coming from Warks Road on the Northeast corner. The road ends roughly 750 feet from the subject property. You will need to take an ATV or get a permit to create a trail.

Bow Lake is a small lake that is roughly 52-acres in size. It has an average depth of 6 feet.
