When you ask the locals about Playfair you always hear the same answers, this is a prime hunting area and it has rich agriculture land.

This is a great area for MOOSE and BLACK BEAR hunting.

The area offers an incredible variety of activities for winter enthusiasts.

With 384 kms of well groomed snowmobile trails and 10 feet of annual snowfall, winters are to be enjoyed here. Snowmobiling is one of Black River-Matheson's largest winter industries.

Riders travel from near and far to enjoy this townships trail system.

Snowshoeing and cross country skiing are also very popular in the area, with an abundance of high quality snow, winter fanatics can get out and enjoy every day.

The current owner says that most fish they catch in this lake are Northern Pike.

TOWNSHIP OF BLACK RIVER-MATHESON

The Township has 150+ lakes and rivers, lakes dug out by glaciers millennia ago, and it’s 300,000+ acres provide beautiful sandy beaches, excellent fishing, boating, hiking, and camping opportunities.

The area offers an incredible variety of activities for winter enthusiasts.

With some of the best ice fishing in Northern Ontario and over 384 kilometers of well-groomed snowmobile trails as well as cross country skiing, skating and hockey, there's something for everyone to enjoy here.

Public beaches are located at Gauthier Lake, Talbock Lake , as well, at the Watabeag Campground.

The boat dock in Matheson gives access to the Abitibi de Troyes Provincial Park which offers backcountry canoeing, camping, fishing and nature viewing.

Black River-Matheson is in the midst of an upswing in business growth spearheaded by the local mining industry.

Not only are there a number of mining extraction and exploration activities, but they are also developing a secondary mining manufacturing industry that will serve the needs of mining companies in the region and across Canada.

Their " advantage" in marketing terms is the fact that they are situated in the center of one of the world's most productive gold and base metal mining regions.

The Town of Matheson has pretty much everything you need, banking, restaurants, groceries, hospital, legal office.

If you need more variety then just drive west on Highway 101 and do your major shopping in the City of Timmins.

Matheson is the last stop on road 101 to Quebec, about an hour away, and is also about an hour or less from Timmins.

THIS IS A GREAT AREA IN WHICH TO LIVE AND RAISE YOUR FAMILY.

 

Health Care:

Bingham Memorial Hospital, one of three hospitals in the MICs group (Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Cochrane) of hospitals, situated in the Town of Matheson, services all of our communities in the Black River-Matheson Township.

The Bingham Memorial Hospital provides emergency care,  active care beds, a palliative care facility along with  chronic and  extended care beds provided via a related facility, the Rosedale Center.

The hospital also provides for administration of chemotherapy, video consultation with specialists via the North Network and hosts visiting specialists in obstetrics, gynecology, surgery, internal medicine, urology, orthopedic and gastroenterology.

A tertiary care hospital is located in Timmins.

The hospital also contains a satellite office of the Porcupine Health Unit.

Two excellent doctors provide a wide variety of medical services to the population.

Land ambulances staffed by paramedics are on site.

Air ambulance services are available when needed.

The hospital has on-site laboratory, radiology and physiotherapy departments.
