THE ABITIBI RIVER:
The Abitibi River, is a significant waterway stretching 540 kilometers from its source at Lake Abitibi, near the Ontario-Quebec border, to its confluence with the Moose River, which ultimately flows into James Bay.
This river, the ninth longest in Ontario, descends 265 meters (869 feet) over its course, carving through the heavily forested Clay Belt region of the Canadian Shield.
Originating from the shallow, 359-square-mile (931-square-kilometer) Lake Abitibi, the river varies in width and depth, featuring notable sections like the Abitibi Canyon, where it plunges dramatically, and expansive lake-like widenings alongside narrower, rapid-filled stretches.
THE TERRAIN
The contour maps indicate that is pretty level country.
Having been on the Abitibi River many times and in different seasons we observe that the property is about anywhere from 4 to 8 feet above the river depending on the season.
Probably on average four to six feet when the river is at its highest point.
Of course, there are sections where the property is in excess of 10 -12 feet above the water.
TREES
This property had the mature trees harvested about 25 years ago.
The new forest has regenerated and the property is pretty well forested primarily with Poplar Trees and Spruce Trees.
These trees are now anywhere from 20 feet to 40 feet tall depending on the species.
Looking at the aerials you can see where the Spruce trees are in relation to the Poplar trees.
ACCESS TO THIS PROPERTY
An UNOPENED ROAD ALLOWANCE is between this property which is in Kennedy Township from the adjoining Glackmeyer Township to the west.
The road allowance is also the concession line separating the two townships.
There is a snowmobile trail along the road allowance that goes by this property so in winter you can snowmobile the very short 1.2 kilometers to the south end of this property.
IN THE NON-WINTER MONTHS drive east of the Town of Cochrane and stop just before the bridge over the Abitibi River, at The Abitibi Campground and Confectionery on the north side of the road.
Go into the store and pay your daily fee of about $15 and that allows you to use their boat launch and safely park your vehicle and trailer.
They also offer a seasonal rate which is much better.
Launch your boat and enjoy the very short boat ride while you enjoy the beautiful scenery to the property.
The Abitibi Campground and Confectionery
The Abitibi Campground has campsites for RV's, campers, 5th Wheels, trailers and tents. They also offer additional amenities such as a confectionery, minnows, boat launch, mini putt and a chip stand right on the Abitibi River.

HUNTING
There is a slough near the western side of the property whose water source we think originates near the south portion of this property.
The water from this slough eventually drains north into the Abitibi River.
The slough attracts the moose both as a water source and a source for food and depending on the time of year and how full the slough is then you may find many ducks and geese as this area is in the flyway zone.
