What is an unorganized township?

Put simply, it's a township that does not have a municipal government.

There is NO OFFICIAL PLAN, NO ZONING, NO ZONING BY-LAWS, NO BUILDING PERMITS.

NO RESTRICTIONS on what you can build or what size you can build.

Building permits are not required however when building in an unorganized township, all structures must comply with the Ontario Building Code for safety  and insurance.

Also, the one chain along the shoreline means you need to build your structure at least 66 feet from the shore line.

CHEAP TAXES

Properties in unorganized townships do not have the benefits of municipal services (trash pick up, water & sewer systems).

But, with that comes a significant cost savings on their property taxes.
