ABOUT THE AREA
Killraine is located on the Northern most point of Lake Superiour.
The property itself sits roughly 300 Meters Above Sea Level.
The surrounding area consists of rolling hills as far as the eye can see.
Some of the highest peaks within view of the property sit at 500 Meters Above Sea Level.
TREES in the area include: Birch, Balsam, Jack Pine, Black Spruce, Cedar, and Poplar.
Since Killraine Township is an unorganized township, there is not a lot of amenities directly in town.
If you head east for a 5 minute drive (roughly 8km) you will be in Township of Scheiber.
Scheiber has a population of approximately 1,100 people and has many amenities listed below.
SCHREIBER TOWNSHIP:
A settlement was founded in 1883 as a construction camp for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR).
In 1885 the town was renamed Schreiber. On July 13, 1901, the township was officially incorporated.
Schreiber is home to both public and catholic elementary schools.
The closest high school is in Terrace Bay (which is roughly 14km east of Schreiber).
There is a school bus pick up in Killraine for these schools.
There is a building supply store, a medical centre, hockey arena and community centre.
You can also enjoy swimming in Lake Superior at Schreiber Beach.
There are many voyager trails that can take you from the Beach back to Whitesand Lake.
For those visitors interested in geology, what is possibly North America’s most diverse, best preserved and internationally known collection of micro-fossils within Precambrian rock is found in the Schreiber Channel. This nature reserve is located just southwest of Schreiber.
ZONING
Boston Township is AN UNORGANIZED TOWNSHIP.
There is NO ZONING and ZONING BY-LAWS.
You DO NOT REQUIRE A BUILDING PERMIT to build your cabin or any other building on this property.
PERMITTED USES
Since there is no zoning or zoning by-laws and building permits are not required the you can build whatever size of building that you want, build as many buildings as you want and have no building restrictions as to what you can do on your property.
Remember that whatever you build will have to conform to the Ontario Building Code if you want your buildings insured.
CLOSEST AIRPORTS:
Thunder Bay International Airport is located roughly 2 hours from the subject property.
Easy Drive along highway 17 or charter a float plane and land directly on your lake.
WHITESAND LAKE:
Whitesand Lake is part of the Hewitson River system. The lake is about 4 kilometres (2 mi) long at its longest, and 1.7 kilometres (1.1 mi) at its widest. It is shaped roughly like the letter "H", with an elongated and fatter lower right arm. The primary inflow is the Whitesand River at the north side of the lake, and the lake flows out at the south-west via the Hewitson River over the Rainbow Falls into Lake Superior.
The lake is roughly 675 acres in size, with over 23.5km(14.63 miles) of shoreline.
On the Southwest Bay of Whitesand Lake is Rainbow Falls Provincial Park. The park itself is roughly 1,400 acres in size. The Rainbow Falls Trail located within the park is part of the 52 km Casque Isles Trail section of the Voyageur Trail that runs between the communities of Terrace Bay, Schreiber and Rossport.
