ABOUT THE ABITIBI RIVER

The Abitibi River is a river in northeastern Ontario, Canada, which flows northwest from Lake Abitibi to join the Moose River which empties into James Bay.

The river’s source is the shallow 359-square-mile (931-square-km) Abitibi Lake, lying across the Ontario-Quebec border.

This river is 540 kilometres long.

The Abitibi River was a major route for the fur trade for the Hudson’s Bay Company in the 1700’s and 1800’s.

The average width of the Abitibi River before the construction of the Twin Falls Dam was between 200 to 300 feet.

After the dam was constructed and the reservoir was created the average width of this water body above the dam varies from about 1,800 feet to about 3,000 feet.

The average depth of this reservoir averages from 100 feet to 200 feet deep.

You can boat all the way to ABITIBI LAKE.

THAT IS A LONG WIDE BODY OF WATER TO BOAT ON.

SURVEY

A land survey of the property was done in December 08, 2011.

The Reference Plan was registered on March 22, 2012.

Abitibi River – Twin Falls Generating Station

Located east of the town of Iroquois Falls in Teefy Township, the station serves as a peaking station and controls the discharge of Lake Abitibi.

Twin Falls regulates the water levels and flow from Lake Abitibi.

Operations pertaining to levels and flows are governed under the 2004-2014 Abitibi River Water Management Plan.

The site is restricted by a maximum water elevation due to flood constraints and a summer minimum elevation to respect navigational constraints.
